Beer-Soaked Breadcrumbs

I give you love you don’t want
Like pushing a new religion
Trying to save your soul
In each and every expedition
I call your name into the wind
Hope it reaches your heart
Hope that you’ll reach out to me
That each time can be a new start
My reach disintegrates before your silence
My hope fades with each setting sun
But eventually you return to me
Hand me a beer-soaked breadcrumb
I grab at it like a prisoner starving
Swallow it down with greed
Ignore the pain as it goes down
On whatever you give me, I’ll feed
Stumbling steps announce your arrival
Suffocating my desire
Slurring words replace your charm
Smoldering embers replace my fire
But it’s you
You’re here
Next to me
Reappeared
We’re chatting
And kissing
And touching
Bodies twisting
All is forgiven and forgotten
As we lap up lust like an ice-cold treat
Desire is melted and dripping now
As we sweat through all of our heat
And everything is okay in this moment
Everything feels as it should always be
The world disappears behind heavy curtains
If the world could just stay you and me
You let me hold your hand
You let me play pretend
I kiss my love into your skin
And pray I don’t offend
You are the music that plays in my mind
The melody stuck in my head
Playing your song brings me peace
But keeps the obsession fed
The clock strikes time to end our play
Time to watch you walk away
And the world comes rushing back
As does my dismay
